We offer the most comprehesive range of conservation hinging, mounting and repair tapes for Framers, Photographers and Artists.
When to use Gummed Tapes: Gummed tapes (or water activated tapes) are the first choice for use with valued art. Gummed tapes are easily removed with water. Gummed adhesives are strong and stay attached over a wide range of temperatures and humidity.
When to use Self Adhesive Tapes: Self adhesive tapes (or pressure sensitive tapes) are useful for quick hinging of art not considered valuable or when the artwork is sensitive to water based adhesives such as digital (Giclee) prints. Although safe these neutral pH tapes require mineral solvents for removal. Self adhesive tapes may slip if the art is heavy or if temperatures/humidity are high.
